About us

The Department of Educational Communication & Technology is one of the four Departments in the School of Education in the College of Education & External Studies.  The Department of Educational Communication and Technology was established in 1972 as a component of the Faculty of Education housed in Education Building at main campus. The department was re-located to the College of Education and External studies in 1988 upon re-establishment of the Faculty of Education.  The role of the Department is to equip students of education with knowledge, competencies and orientation for professional teacher development. The Department transforms students into teachers by offering courses in general methods of teaching, subject methods, educational technology, production of teaching and learning resources and media, micro-teaching and teaching practice which are key components teacher development.

Welcome to the Department of Educational Communication and Technology website. The Department’s vision is to be a center of professional excellence committed to development of competence in teaching and research.   Our programmes, which range from diploma to PHD,  are tailored towards providing the student with knowledge, competences, orientations and abilities to perform at any level of education by adopting a  multi-disciplinary approach to professional teacher development.

QUALITY OBJECTIVES

  1. To manage quality teaching to students at 100% in all academic programmes annually.
  2. To incorporate open, distance and E-learning mode of delivery in all programmes.
  3. To conduct seminars for pedagogical competences among faculty and graduate students.
  4. To review all department’s programmes in alignment to CUE requirements.
  5. To enhance quality supervision to students participating in teaching practice and research for higher teacher professional development.
  6. To publish 15 articles in refereed journals annually
