On May 20; 2016, Prof Odundo; Chairman of the Department of Education, Communication and Technology, University of Nairobi was invited as the Chief Guest speaker during the closing ceremony the National Secondary In service Training -INSET program organized by Centre for Mathematics, Science and Technology Education in Africa -CEMASTEA.  

On May 16th-May 20th 2016, CEMASTEA held a workshop for the 6th cohort which brought together teachers from 9 counties in Kenya. The theme of the workshop was “Enhancing effective learner involvement through innovative classroom practices for learner growth”

CEMASTEA has been holding similar workshops targeting teachers across the country with an aim of creating a pool of professional teachers who are able to address specific leaner based issues for the attainment of quality education.

Prof. Odundo; in his speech encouraged participants to embrace technology and adapt to the changes in education that have been brought about by technology. He noted,  “To achieve effective learning in your class, you are encouraged to practice tenets of INSET which emphasizes the position of the learner as one being transformed into an innovative, creative and adaptable individual who uses knowledge acquired to address emerging issues in society.”
