Admission Requirements |
- A Holder of Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE) with a minimum aggregate performance of C+ or its equivalent qualifications.
- A holder of professional qualifications such as Diploma in Early childhood Education OR Diploma in Education OR Teachers Certificate (S1) from recognized institutions OR its equivalent qualifications.
- A trained primary school teacher of P1 grade and minimum teaching experience of three years.
- A holder of Kenya Advanced Certificate of Education (KACE) with a minimum of Two principal passes or its approved equivalent qualifications.
- A holder of other degrees from a recognized university.
- Any other qualifications equivalent to the above recognized by the University of Nairobi.

HOW TO APPLY
Step 1: Visit the application website http://application.uonbi.ac.ke
Step 2: Registration and creation of user account: To register you need an email address which will be validated during the registration process. Every applicant must create their own personal user account.
Step 3: Profile Management
Key-in your personal details and upload scanned copies of academic certificates and a passport photograph. Only when your profile is complete can you apply for the programme you wish to undertake.
Step 4: Programme Selection
Select and apply for the course you are interested in studying. You will be issued with a reference number and directed to pay the prescribed application fee. You can pay the application fees using: (1). Credit/Debit Card (2). Mpesa Pay Bill (3). Direct Cash deposit at any KCB branch. Upon payment, you will receive a confirmation of the payment on the email address and phone registered in step 2.
Step 5: Applicant Tracking
Track the status of your application online through the system. Status alerts will be sent to your registered email address and phone number.

Award of Degree |
The Bachelor of Education in Early Childhood Education shall be classified on the basis of the performance of the candidates. The final award of the degree shall be based on an average score derived from the candidates scores in the units covered in levels three and four. The final ward of the degree shall be classified into First class, Second class (upper division), Second class (Lower division) and pass as follows:

First Class Honours : 70 - 100% Second Class (upper Division Honours) : 60 - 69 % Second Class (lower Division Honours) : 50 - 59% Pass : 40 - 49% Fail : 39%

Course Structure and Duration |
The programme comprises a total of 54 units, organized in four levels, 52 units are core and two elective. Each unit shall constitute 45 contact hours. Teaching shall take place through lectures, seminars, tutorials and practicals. In order to qualify for the award of the Degree of Bachelor of Education in Early Childhood Education, a candidate MUST successfully complete a total of 54units including the TWO elective units. A candidate must complete the programme within the eight years of registration. Failure to complete the programme within the eight years of registration will lead to deregistration. |
Credit Transfers & Exemptions |
The following conditions apply to transfer and exemption of course untis
- Transfer of credits and or exemptions not exceeding one third of the courses offered in the programme shall be allowed if the candidate obtained such credits from institutions recognized by the University of Nairobi or its equivalent.
- Applications for the credit transfer and/or excemption shall be made on payment of prescribed fees by the Faculty of Education giving details of the units for which credit transfer and/or exemption is sought.
- The Faculty of Education may administer an assessment test for each course unit as deemed necessary.

Examinations Regulations |
All units shall be examined in the semester in which they are taken. Such examinations shall comprise continuous assessment test and end of semester examinations.
All examinations shall be governed by the following rules:-
- Each Unit shall be marked out of 100 marks.
- End of Semester examinations shall constitute 70 per cent and continuous assessment tests 30 per cent of the marks in each unit taken.
The pass mark in each unit shall be 40 per cent.
A candidate who fails to attain the pass mark of 40 per cent in six units and below taken in any year shall on the approval of the Board of Examiners and Senate be allowed to sit a supplementary examination in those units within three months of the ordinary examination.
A candidate who fails to attain a pass mark in seven or eight units taken in an ordinary examination, shall on the recommendation of the Board of Examiners and approval of Senate repeat the year.
A candidate who fails in a supplementary examination in any unit, shall on recommendation of the Board of Examiners and approval of Senate repeat the year.
A candidate who fails to attain the pass mark in nine or more units taken in any year shall be discontinued. |

Introduction |
The Faculty of Education proposes to start a Bachelor of Education Degree in Early Childhood Education. The programme is designed for teachers, supervisors and managers of early childhood development programmes. It is an intervention programme to equip the teacher with knowledge, skills and attitudes about the childs total development: physical, cognitive, social emotional, religious and moral and thus contribute towards improving the status of children. The faculty has an already approved Diploma in Early Childhood Education. |
Module II Entry Requirements |
• KCSE C+ (Plus)
• Diploma in education or Early childhood education or teachers certificate S1 from a recognized institution plus an aggregate of C (Plain) at KCSE or Divisions III at KCE
• "A" level certificate 2 principals and above
• P1 certificate with C (plain) at KCSE or division III at KCE
Any other qualification equivalent to any of the above criteria
